Choir Appeal 2016
St James’ is a small country parish which has a strong tradition of quality church music stretching back over 100 years. The purpose of our choir is to lead the singing in the various services for which we are required.
I think that we are so lucky in having a choir of our size keeping the tradition of church music alive in this corner of Lancashire and it is to their credit that I receive compliments on their performances from both regular worshippers and visitors. In churches I have visited, some of which are larger than ours, the musical contribution to services consists of one reluctant, elderly organist and three or four elderly choir members, and they think that they are lucky to have even that. I would add that they are also envious when they hear of our membership.
For various reasons our numbers have shrunk of late and I believe now is the time to address the problem before it is too late and there comes the time when there is no music and singing at all!
We may be fairly strong in numbers but there is always room for additional members, so I would like to take this opportunity to appeal for those who would like to join us, to come forward now. Strong choirs are essential, not only to lead the singing, but also with the vicar to lead the worship. Once again, applicants do not have to be able to sing like Charlotte Church or Pavarotti, nor even to be able to read music, but only to be able to hold a note, sing in tune and most importantly to have enthusiasm and commitment to one hour of practice a week (Mondays at 11 a.m.) and one hour a week on most Sundays plus special services. Smart uniforms are provided. I do know that there are good voices in the congregation because my spies tell me so. Please don’t be shy; it can be a lot of fun too.
All you have to do is contact me either after the 10.30 service on a Sunday or by phone (01695 724358) or by email (email@example.com). I look forward to welcoming all new members into our good humoured democratic group.
